Mock Trial at Oxford Crown Court
The criminal justice system poses endless interesting questions. What sort of behaviour should be criminalised? How do we ensure that those charged with a criminal offence receive a fair trial? Do juries make good decisions? Students on this weekend’s Mock Trial course spent Saturday tackling some of these important questions whilst learning about how the system works as a whole.
Sunday posed a new challenge as students put their new advocacy skills to the test in a mock trial in the Court Room at the Oxford Town Hall. Dressed in barristers’ gowns, the students did an excellent job of examining and cross-examining witnesses. After a convincing display from both sides, the defendant was eventually found guilty of assault.
