Bursaries

Debate Chamber is strongly committed to ensuring that financial circumstances do not prevent any student from attending our events. To that end, we offer fees bursaries covering up to 90% of course fees (or even 100% in exceptional circumstances) to students who would otherwise have difficulty in participating.

Please note that there are a limited number of bursary spaces available for each course which will be allocated on a first come first served basis to eligible students.

Students meeting any of the following criteria will be eligible for an 80% fees bursary (for one or two day events) or a 90% fees bursary (for longer events):

  • students in receipt of free school meals
  • students whose parents are in receipt of Income Support or Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • post-16 students in receipt of Income Support or Jobseeker’s Allowance in their own right

Students meeting the following criterion will be eligible for a 50% fees bursary:

  • post-16 students in receipt of the highest rate of Education Maintainance Allowance (i.e. £30 per week)

Please note that students who do not meet the above criteria may still be eligible for fees bursaries. Applications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

How to Apply

Bursary applicants will be asked to supply a letter or email from a relevant member of staff at their school (or other suitable person) confirming that the student would benefit from attending the Debate Chamber course and would make a positive contribution to the event, and giving details of the relevant financial circumstances.

If you wish to apply for a bursary under any of the above criteria please submit your registration form for the event you wish to attend, and then send us an email at info@debatechamber.com to let us know that you will be applying for a bursary, the name of your school and of the referee who will be contacting us.

Please ask your referee to contact us within ten days of your registration.
