Trade & Globalisation
Is ‘free’ trade always free, and ‘fair’ trade fair? Is what’s best for business always best for workers, or for the nation as a whole?
These are real and urgent questions affecting all of us, but can seem abstract discussed in the classroom. In the Trade and Globalisation exercise students confront the challenges of international commerce by working in teams to run a country’s trade policy. Each team team is in charge of a country with different resources and social and economic characteristics.
It is up to the teams to choose between free market, protectionist, and fair trade policies, in the pursuit of prosperity and stability for their nation.
How can I use this activity to support Citizenship teaching?
