Debate Chamber

Autumn History School

University of London Union • 29th-31st October 2010 • ages 15-18

Can historians ever know the truth about the past?

Is all history really the history of class struggles?

How could people in the past believe in witchcraft, or the divine right of kings?

Can one man change the course of history?

Following the same programme as our successful History Summer School, the Autumn History School is a chance for students to think deeply and analytically about the purpose, value and method of historical study. During this three day course students will be exposed to ideas and approaches which they may not have encountered at school but which are integral to the study of history at university. Through seminars, lectures, case studies and debates they will develop their skills in evidential, textual and theoretical analysis. Small classes led by expert tutors provide a stimulating and supportive environment in which to encounter and critically engage with new ideas in the study of history.
