Debate Chamber offers YOU the chance to make the news…
So you think you want to be a journalist? Find out more about this popular profession in this hands-on two-day course this summer. Make your own television news report; learn the secrets of a good interview, use real BBC equipment in a Television Centre tour; and write, edit and illustrate your own edition of a national newspaper – have you got what it takes to get the exclusive?

The course programme includes:
- Can the Sun really swing an election? – Understanding the power of the media and the role of journalists in a democratic country.
- Writing for your audience – effective writing, using and avoiding bias, persuasive language, tabloid and broadsheet styles. Includes practical exercises based around the interpretation of vintage newsclips using different styles and perspectives.
- Broadcasting – create your own television news report.
- Career Paths – how to get started in journalism and on the day to day life of journalists in different areas of work from news and current affairs to music and fashion.
- ‘The Newspaper Game’ – in teams, you take charge of a national newspaper. Together you must edit, write and illustrate an edition of a tabloid or broadsheet paper in response to various live press conferences, exclusive interviews and other news items.
- Participants will also go on a tour of the BBC Television Centre, where they’ll have an opportunity to see BBC broadcasting in action and even get to try out some of the equipment for themselves.
