Young Lawyers Weekend
A hands-on introduction to criminal law for students in years 7-9 (aged 11-14).
Whether you think you might one day want to be a barrister or solicitor, or just want to taste the thrill of putting your case to a jury, the Debate Chamber Young Lawyers Weekend is a chance to find out how the criminal justice process really works. First our tutors will take you through the basics of the British justice system, the nature of criminal offences, the legal profession and court procedure, then you will get to experience it all for yourself! Participating students will:
- take part in mock interrogations and advocacy workshops
- prepare the prosecution or defence side of a realistic criminal case using dossiers of forensic evidence, police interviews and witness statements
- take the role of barristers in a full Crown Court Trial, complete with court dress of wig and gown
The Young Lawyers Weekend will take place on the 9th/10th October at the University of London Union. Teaching will run from 10.30 – 4.30 on each day.
