Paediatrics Masterclass
30th October and repeated 20th November • Ages 15-18 • University of London Union
Paediatrics, the branch of medicine that deals with infants, children and adolescents, is one of the most challenging disciplines in the medical profession, but it can also be one of the most rewarding. In this hands-on introduction, doctors and medical students will take you key aspects of paediatrics, from neonatal development to immunisation. During the day there will be plenty of opportunity for you to try taking on the role of doctor yourself through case-studies and role play and learn about the particular skills required when working with children.
Masterclass Programme 2010
Course will include:
Baby to Child.
Discover what reflexes do doctors look out for in a newborn and why, and how infants develop in the first months of life.
Pathology
This class will introduce you to some of the most troubling illnesses infants face – from congenital heart disease to complex lung diseases – and the ways doctors can help them. You will even find out what to look for in an X-Ray.
Case Study Workshops.
Diagnosis of children requires special skill and care. This is your opportunity to test your knowledge as you attempt a paediatric diagnosis. You’ll need to know the right questions to ask (and how to ask them) as you take a paediatrics history. Once diagnosed, will you know what course of treatment to advise?
