Debate Championship
Debate Chamber are once
again running a Debate Championship for university debaters in 2006-07.
The rankings are based on performance at UK and Ireland inter-varsity
competitions, including Opens.
The 2006 winner was Derek Lande, from University
College, Cork.

The Rules
Every person who enters a UK or Irish inter-varsity
in 2006-07 is entered into the Debate Championship rankings. Points
are awarded after each tournament based on individual speaker marks.
Bonus points added for reaching the final, winning the tournament
and being the best speaker in the final. Missing a competition results
in points being deducted. Performing consistently well over a number
of competitions will maximise your overall rating.
Ranking
One thousand and thirty-eight speakers were entered
into the rankings last year. So far, after the Durham IV, there
are 234. At this early stage, James Dray of Oxford is top having
won the Durham IV and topped the speaker tab.
Prizes
The Winner of the Debate Championships
in 2007 will receive a cheque for £300.
The Most Improved Speaker and Best New
Speaker will each receive £100.
