Debate Chamber

PPE Feedback

An amazing experience. Really insightful and helped me decide whether PPE was the right course for me. Even if it turns out to not be what you want to do in the end the course splits into the three seperate disciplines which means you learn a lot about each of the three subjects. I met a lot of lovely people who I have stayed in touch with. A brilliant weekend all round!

Sophie, Benenden School

This is a fantastic experience and you must not miss out! I didn’t take any of the subjects at A level, however I found it extremely accessible! I think even if I don’t take PPE at university, this course has really opened my mind to so many different ways of thinking about my life and world affairs!

Bruce, Thurston Community College

Before the PPE weekend I had very limited knowledge on the subjects but through this course I have become aware of what each subject consists in and how important it all is to our society and the world. In my opinion it is highly recommended for anyone, wether you have very little knowledge and want to find out more or even if you are already studying the subjects but want to know even more!

Tiffany, St George’s Harpenden

This course is extremely good fun and it really helped me make my A-level descisions. All the teachers are interesting as well as being very informative. I can guarantee that you will love it!

Will, Magdalen College School

I found the PPE weekend course really enjoyable and interesting, and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in learning about the subjects!

Ronak, Latymer Upper School

It’s challenging stuff, but I really enjoyed the weekend and would definitely do it again.

Jenny, Woodford County High School

This weekend course is packed full of interesting and benfiting information, which has brought me one step closer to choosing what I wish to do at university. The tutors offer experience, which cannot be found anywhere else (unless you know a professional university tutor). Therefore I would highly recommend this course; if you are still indecisive to which area of PPE (or all of it) which you’d like to pursue.

Jack, Alton College

Great course, just the right detail covered by the tutors and all in an unpatronising yet technical way.

Tristan, Royal Grammar School

The course gave a good indication of what PPE will be like as a course and the tutors were inspirational.

Grace, Aylesbury High School

I met a lot of nice people and gained a little more knowledge about subjects that I would otherwise have not known about. This weekend was definitely worthwhile, and I am very keen to do a Debate Chamber summer school, perhaps in Philosophy. I really recommend it!

Finola, Surbiton High School

I felt that the tutors as well as the other students who came were very welcoming and this resulted in a friendly environment to learn and work in. I was particularly intrigued by the ingenuity with which the game theory situations allow us to analyse real life situations.

Yash, Merchant Taylors School

I really enjoyed my experience at the PPE weekend, I found it really useful in helping me decide whether I would like to study PPE at university. I also enjoyed  getting to explore some topics which are not studied in school and discuss my ideas with the other students and tutors. I would definitely recommend it to anyone!

Sapphire, Downe House School

Was a really productive way to spend a weekend – doesn’t feel like work if you’re doing it for your own pleasure and not for an exam!

Arabella, Wycombe Abbey School

The PPE Weekend was very useful because it opened my eyes to the bigger picture of the world. All topics covered were relevant and the tutors were clearly very enthusiastic about each of their subjects which was very inspiring to work with. I learnt so much over the weekend and also met some really nice people there.

Charlotte, Charterhouse School

It gave me an idea of what to expect from Politics, Philosophy and Economics at university. It deepened my understanding of these subjects in a way which supports my A-level studies. It was also challenging and fun.

Imogen, Haberdashers School for Girls

The PPE Weekend is an experience that will challenge you intellectually and encourage you to engage with areas of life that you may not have previously have engaged with. It is a chance to meet people from all over the country who have similar interests to you, although not necessarily similar view points. This leads to heated and stimulating debate that questions but also respects other points of view.

Naomi, Central Newcastle School

Great experience, really exciting and engaging!

Rebecca, Stephen Perse School

Great! A timely insight into the world of PPE! Tutors are of an incredible level of intelligence which helped me understand some of the most complicated theories associated with PPE. Brilliant.

Joshua, Kent College

I would wholly recommend that students take up this Weekend if they wish to study PPE- or indeed any of the specific components. The tutors are incredibly approachable and very welcoming with any questions one may have.

Hashim, King Edward VI Aston School

I thought that the teaching was energetic and engaging and I learnt a lot in very little time.

Alex, St Pauls Boys School

The PPE course is very helpful for those deciding on whether or not to pursue PPE at University. The topics are taught by very knowledgeable tutors and the whole experience is very relaxed. All the students are very intellectually capable and even though I didn’t have as much knowledge as (seemingly) most people (pre-AS/don’t do Economics/politics), I didn’t feel left out or unsure – I felt that I’d learnt a lot and my understanding of the current climate of politics had vastly improved. The PPE weekend is very fun and enjoyable – you meet people with differing views and this challenges your own opinions and helps you to form new ones. Highly recommended!

Imogen, Nottingham Girls School

The PPE Weekend gave me the opportunity to apply my knowledge from the classroom and from current affairs, along with analytical skills, to a range of new issues. It was a great experience and I feel that I have learnt a lot, both in terms of the theory of the three subjects and in how they are taught, applied and debated at a higher level than school. I met students from across the country (and beyond!) with very different opinions to mine. This helped me to develop my own personal views of the three disciplines and the world as a whole.

Matthew, Newcastle-under-Lyme School

I would definitely recommend it, I learnt a lot, especially about politics, the philosophy was very interesting and made you question theories, the economics was a good taster as to how economics is related in real life. And it also increased my confidence over the whole weekend.

Charlotte, Beaconsfield High School

I did not think I was good enough to do PPE at Oxford or a good university. This opportunity from the Debate Chamber has empowered my confidence to a sophisticated level, and I feel I can now follow my dreams! If you are going to apply, I would say do it now! If you think that it would be too hard for you or pupils there may be better than you, then I say throw that thought away and carve your future using this course.

Priyesh, Twyford High School

It was a relly helpful course with lessons in small groups so you could easily get involved.

Lucinda, Stephen Perse School

The PPE course gave me a broad grounding into what PPE is like to study at university- that is, a mixture of analyis of texts, graphs and information, leading to the sparking of some of the most important questions such as, ” How should we live our lives?”, the run up to the financial crisis and the extent to which Liberty positvely impacts society. I would highly recommend this course for anyone looking to study PPE.

Julius, The Jewish Free School

I found the course extremely helpful, it convinced me that I want to do PPE at university and that I would enjoy all aspects of the course. The teaching standard was excellent, I managed to learn a lot of material in a short amount of time and found the lessons enjoyable and interesting. It gave me a good indication of what PPE would be like at university and I would advise anyone considering PPE to do it.

Alex, City of London Freemen’s School

The PPE school was an excellent forum of debate for students who have similar interests.  The experience of being surrounded by such interesting people was itself very rewarding – I learned alot from fellow students.  The teaching staff were great fun and evidently very good at their job! I was already very passionate about PPE, but this course has allowed me to take on board new ideas, has challenged my previous assumptions, and has made me all the more determined to continue the study of PPE. An unmissable opportunity!

Simon, Merchant Taylors Grammar School

The PPE course will give you an in depth understanding of the sort of topics you will cover on your course if you choose it for university; if you’ve been looking at prospectuses wondering whether PPE is for you then Debate Chamber is definitely the place for you.

Morgan, Christ the King Sixth Form College

The teaching was both engaging and interesting and it was lovely to meet and share interests with similar people on the course.

Olivia, Queen’s Gate School

This course is absolutely fantastic, you can learn lots of things from it.

Tong, Caterham School

The PPE Autumn School is the perfect introduction to the three disciplines with detailed and worthwhile sessions on the relevant subject matter for the degree. The tutors were engaging and the subjct matter was on the whole very interesting. The environs are pleasant and the other attending students are always friendly and good fun to be with during the course.

Nick, Churchers College

I found the course very worthwhile, it was interesting and we covered a lot. It helped to verify my choice of PPE at university as well as meeting people similar to myself.

Olivia, Surbiton High School

It was an amazing course which was really worthwhile. It strengthened my range of knowledge, and made me think a lot in a depth.

Jae, British International School Bratislava

I think that the PPE course was a great thing to do and well worth the money. If you don’t know anything about any of the disciplines and simply want to see what it might be like you will be able to tell whether it’s for you, and if you already study and are interested in the disciplines you are provided with a platform in which to discuss and learn about these topics with your peers. It was an enjoyable and informative 4 days and I highly recommend it to anyone who is even remotely interested in Politics, Philosphy or Economics.

Rachel, Churchers College
