Advanced Medicine Summer School

24th-26th August 2012 • University of London Union • Ages 15-18

The Advanced Medicine Summer School covers four key areas of medicine: oncology (cancer), immunology, surgical skills, and paediatrics.

The course aims to be intellectually challenging and stimulating, and students can expect to gain a significant amount of knowledge and experience teaching methods and approaches which will give them a taste of Medicine at undergraduate level. During each section of the course vocational links will be drawn with particular aspects of medical practice, and particular career paths and options.

The course aims to be expansive, challenging conceptions of general medicine and looking at the ethical dimensions of medical decision making and at future technologies. These sessions will require a high level of analytical engagement from students and will develop skills of critical thinking and problem solving which will serve students well in many areas of academic endeavour.

The course is open to all students aged 15-18 and no prior knowledge is necessary. For students who have already attended the Medicine Summer School, this event will help you build on you knowledge, find out much more about medical science and the doctor’s profession,  and to apply the skills you have learned to diverse new case studies and practical exercises.

However, the two courses are free-standing and it is not necessary to attend the Medicine Summer School in order to attend the Advanced Medicine Summer School.
